Qualifying

Saturday, 05/07/14, 10.15 – 11.20, Weather: Sunny, 19°C

According to the rules there is one qualifying session of 30 minutes, with the participants split into two groups, running in consecutive sessions. The best lap time per driver makes up the grid for race one, and the second fastest lap time for each driver determines the grid for race two.
When the first group took to the track the sun was shining and temperatures were warm. Marek continuously improved, but only late into the session was he able to get a tow. That put him 8th in his group for the race one grid, and 10th on the grid for the Sunday race.

Race One (25 minutes + 1 lap)

Saturday, 05/07/14, 17.00, Weather: Cloudy, 22°C

The start was chaotic and as is always the case here in Monza the first Chicane proved decisive. Someone ran over Marek’s rear wheel and another driver hit him with their front wing, his tyre was punctured and he limped back to the pits with it completely flat. A new tyre was quickly mounted and he was able to rejoin. He completed the race and was classified 19th, which was a shame because a much better result was on the cards.

1st Charles Leclerc (MC) Fortec 27:56.899
2nd Alessio Rovera (I) Cram Gap 3.860
3rd Stefan Riener (A) Cram Gap 5.891

Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS Championship

Race Two (25 minutes + 1 lap)

Sunday, 06/07/14, 14.15, Weather: Cloudy, 27°C

The temperature was very hot when the race started. Marek got a good start and was up to 11th by the end of the first lap when Cazzaniga made a mistake and dropped back. Marek was now 10th but the gap to the next driver was bigger this time, so Marek wasn’t able to use their slipstream, which is very important on this circuit. That meant a chasing group of three could steadily close in on him. Marek tried to resist, but Aitken, Gonfianti and Bosak managed one after the other to get past him using the momentum of the slipstream. Marek retook Bosak the same way a lap later, but finally he had to admit defeat and let Bosak go. That meant Marek finished a promising race in a good 13th place.

The next race weekend of the ALPS championship will take place after the long summer break, on 6th/7th September at Mugello (I).

Results Race Two
1st Charles Leclerc (MC) Fortec 27:59.827
2nd Matevos Isaakyan (RUS) JD Gap 2.151
3rd Alessio Rovera (I) Cram Gap 3.671
13th Marek Boeckmann (D) Jenzer Motorsport
Fastest lap: Jack Aitken (GB), 1.50.972
