Qualifying

Saturday, 05/10/13, 10.15 – 11.20, Weather: Overcast, 14°C

According to the rules there is one qualifying session of 30 minutes, with the participants split into two groups, running in consecutive sessions. The best lap time per driver makes up the grid for race one, and the second fastest lap time for each driver determines the grid for race two.

Heavy rain fell during the night and the track was still wet when qualifying started. Denis was in the first group and was 7th for a long time, but on the very last lap three other drivers managed to just edge in front of him, leaving him in 10th in his group.

Race One (25 minutes + 1 lap)

Saturday, 05/10/13, 16.35, Weather: Rain, 14°C

It had been raining steadily since qualifying, and although it was only light, for safety reasons it was decided that they would start behind the Safety Car and run two laps before being turned loose. Kevin was then in 10th, Andrew was 15th and Denis was 20th. There was a lot of spray and in the midfield positions visibility was non-existent. Kevin was chasing Orudzhev, but got sideways on the kerbs in the chicane and spun. He was able to rejoin but only after everybody had passed and he started a courageous recovery drive. He managed to improve his position with each lap and crossed the finish line in 15th after a tough race. Andrew treated his first wet weather race with caution, driving very well and avoiding any incidents. He soon found himself in the top ten and he was able to come home in 9th place. Because Parry was not eligible to score points in this championship, Andrew was awarded four points. Denis also moved up the order lap by lap and was 15th when he tried to mount an attack on Evstigneev. It didn’t quite pan out, he ran wide and Kevin passed him on the very last lap.

Race 2 (25 Minutes + 1 Lap)

Sunday, 06/10/13, 14.20, Weather: Overcast, 14°C

There were dark clouds threatening more rain but it stayed dry this time, which meant a normal start of the last race of the season. However, a series of accidents meant the Safety Car had to be deployed. Unfortunately Andrew was involved in one of the incidents after he outbraked Simonyan, but was then pushed off by him. The two of them ended up in the gravel traps, and that was the end of the race for both of them. At least Kevin was 9th and Denis already up to 11th, and in the hard paced race that followed there were soon more changes. Kevin moved up to 6th, driving superbly, and was happy to come home in that position. Denis was also on a very good run and moved up steadily, collecting points for the second time this season, this time for 8th place. After the race Parry, who finished 2nd on the road, was given a 25-second penalty for a jump start. That moved two of our drivers up a position.

The winner of the 2013 ALPS championship was Antonio Fuoco. Kevin Joerg claimed an excellent 4th place overall and all our drivers scored points.

Results Race Two
1st Luca Ghiotto (I) Prema 22:01.130
2nd Antonio Fuoco (I) Prema Gap 3.162
3rd Egor Orudzhev (RUS) Tech 1 Gap 4.107
