Race One (25 minutes + 1 lap)

Saturday, 27/07/13, 17.30, Weather: Sunny, 36°C

It was still very hot at the end of the afternoon. The start went well and there were no big incidents. Kevin was 4th place at the end of the first lap, behind Bonifacio, Fuoco and Orudzhev. Andrew held position and was 8th while Denis was hit by another driver and had an off track moment that dropped him back to 19th. Kevin was perfectly able to keep up with the front runners, and put in a good strong drive. While Fuoco fought with Bonifacio, Kevin was close behind Orudzhev, putting pressure on him, and finally forcing a mistake in the closing laps. Kevin saw his chance to overtake, and came home in an excellent 3rd place, holding Orudzhev at bay until the end. Andrew was 8th until the final few laps, when two drivers in front of him went off the track and ripped some of the Astroturf off the run off area. The pieces caught on the front of Andrew’s car and made the handling difficult, which meant Andrew fell back to 13th, which seemed more than a little unfair. Denis had a slightly damaged car after the contact at the start, but was able to finish the race in 17th, with no further problems.

Race 2 (25 Minutes + 1 Lap)

Sunday, 28/07/13, 13.40, Weather: Sunny, 36°C

There was not a cloud in the sky again today and Kevin was 4th after the start behind Bonifacio, Fuoco and Ghiotto. However, on lap two Bonifacio and Fuoco crashed and the Safety Car had to be deployed while the wreckage was cleared away. That put Kevin in 2nd place behind Ghiotto. Denis was 12th and Andrew had fallen back after contact at the start when he had to take to the grass to avoid further damage. At the restart Kevin held onto 2nd, while Denis managed to overtake two cars in one go and was now 10th. Andrew started to work his way back up the order and he was making good progress setting very fast lap times. He made it up to 15th but then someone spun in front of him and he couldn’t quite avoid him, damaging his own suspension. Andrew limped back to the pitlane where he was a disappointed retiree from the race. Meanwhile Denis had fought his way forward and overtaken Chudleigh and De Narda to finish the race in an excellent 8th place that he could be justifiably proud of, making this his best result of the season. Kevin held 2nd for a long time, but Orudzhev was pressuring him constantly, and finally Kevin left the door open just enough for Orudzhev to see an invitation and take it. That meant Kevin took the chequered flag in an excellent 3rd place for the second time this weekend. We were very pleased about this!

The next race weekend of the ALPS championship is in six weeks time, starting on 7th September in Mugello (I).

Results Race Two
1st Luca Ghiotto (I) Prema 27:46.401

8th Denis Korneev (RUS) Jenzer Motorsport
21st Andrew Tang (SIN) Jenzer Motorsport
Fastest lap: Luca Ghiotto (I), 1:36.360
