Race One (25 minutes + 1 lap)

Saturday, 20/07/13, 12.05, Weather: Sunny, 27°C

The race started under blue skies in the noonday heat and the large field made it through the first corners without any serious incidents, everyone getting away cleanly this time. Levin immediately managed to gain a few places, and setting a good pace he had a lively race, working his way through to 17th place by the end. Kevin on the other hand first lost a few places and dropped back behind Marcos. As the race wore on though he settled in to a good rhythm and drove some very fast laps toward the end of the race (he only slowed by 0.3 seconds a lap compared with the fastest lap time of Albon). Kevin also worked his way forward to 22nd and towards the end of the race he retook Marco to gain a place. Marcos managed a good start and immediately made up some places, but then pushed a bit too hard, running wide and losing ground. In the end he finished the race right behind Kevin in 23rd. Albon, who had led the whole race was awarded a ten second penalty for jumping the start, which handed the win to d’Agosto.

Our drivers were out first this time and all three pushed hard from the start, doing their best to make the most of the short qualifying session. This time Levin claimed 16th place on the grid for race two, with Kevin in 20th and Marcos in 30th, the latter having pushed the car rather too hard.

Formula Renault 2.0 EUROCUP

Race 2 (25 Minutes + 1 Lap)

Sunday, 21/07/13, 16.10, Weather: Sunny, 28°C

Race Two started bang on time and Levin made a great start, overtaking several of his competitors during the first lap. He was soon up in 10th and easily kept up with the fast pace of the front runners. On lap four Panis fell back, and that let Levin into 9th behind Ghiotto and in front of Aitken and Schothorst. This group set the fastest pace in parts of the race, running much faster than the actual leaders, the whole group repeatedly setting new fastest lap sequences in the race (Levin 1.30.950). Levin was in his element and made no mistakes whatsoever, driving a very strong race and being well rewarded with a super 9th place and his first points. He crossed the finish line just 6.7 seconds behind the winner; we were absolutely delighted with his performance! Kevin held onto his position at the start and then improved place by place, also setting some remarkably fast lap times, and finished a good race in a slightly less spectactular but still very good 16th place. Marcos also started well and set about trying to make places as fast as possible, driving very aggressively. In the end he took one too many risks and damaged his front wing, then ran wide a few times and lost all the places he’d gained, eventually taking the chequered flag in 24th after what was a very eventful race.

The next race weekend of the EUROCUP will be in eight weeks’ time after the long summer break, starting 13th September at the Hungaroring near Budapest.
