FR2.0 EUROCUP – FIRST TEST DAYS AT MOTORLAND

FR2.0 Eurocup

The 12 teams competing in the FR2.0 Eurocup met up for the first two test days at Motorland Aragon, in Spain, with 36 drivers appearing each day. The track, located on a beautiful plateau about 100 km southwest of Zaragoza, was gripped in bitter cold, with a strong wind blowing and temperatures only just above freezing. It was a tough test for teams and drivers alike!

The new Formula Renault 2.0 2013 Tatuus models ran for the first time, and inevitably there were a few minor technical issues that needed the team’s attention.

Our three drivers, Kevin Joerg, Marcos Siebert and Levin Amweg, are all rookies and none of them had any prior experience of the demanding track. Despite that Kevin managed to finish 10th in the morning session on day one. Kevin was 21st overall on the day and was 3rd best rookie.
However, because he is competing in the Eurocup and the full ALPS championship in a double program he is only allowed to run in half of any official Eurocup test days. As a result we replaced him on day 2 with Denis Korneev (RUS).
Levin delivered a respectable test, despite having to battle the technical gremlins with brake problems.
Meanwhile Marcos, who has the least single seater experience of the three, coped well, but sometimes got a bit over enthusiastic, which resulted in a number of spins.

As always on free test days, the teams were running a variety of tyre strategies, which meant drivers with more racing experience soon topped the time sheets.
We see this test as the long awaited “rollout” of our team after the long winter break and are already looking forward to the next test sessions.

The next official test days are on 5th/6th March at Paul Ricard (F).
