Press Release 15 / 2012

25th October 2012

GP3 OFFICIAL TEST DAYS IN JEREZ

GP3-Series

The GP3 Series teams were back together on 24th/25th October 2012 for two official post-season test days at the Circuito de Jerez in Spain. 20 drivers were in attendance including Samin Gomez (VEN) and Alex Fontana (CH) who drove for us. Patric Niederhauser (CH) was out of action with an injured hand and so could not drive.

The demanding, technical circuit, so often used by Formula 1 Teams for testing, was new to our drivers. Despite not knowing the track Alex was within the top six before the end of the morning. Samin lost some time in the fast sections to start with, but was already very good in some of the other sectors. In the afternoon it rained unceasingly, which was good for Alex and Samin, as they were able to gain some useful experience of the Pirelli wet weather tyres. Alex drove well and was again 6th at the end of the day, while Samin improved steadily and ended the day just one second behind Alex.

The second day again started with lots of rain. Towards midday it started to dry out and slick tyres were mounted. Alex again managed to take 6th place. Samin, who had more confidence in the car and tyres in the wet improved more than the others in comparison and was in a respectable 16th by noon. It was briefly dry at the start of the afternoon, but then poured down again. Conditions were wildly changeable and the timesheets were not especially meaningful as a result. Alex drove very well throughout though and Samin kept right on improving. Hopefully the next test days will take place in more settled weather conditions.

The last official test days of 2012 will take place on 6th/7th November at Estoril (P). After that there will be a short winter break. However, we are already looking forward to starting the season in February 2013 with the new, stronger GP3 Series car. We hope that you will also be with us then and that we may count on your support again!
