Press Release 20 / 2013

13th October 2013

TANG IN ZANDVOORT

FR2.0 NEC

Andrew Tang hadn’t had enough at the end of the ALPS Championship last weekend at Imola and requested to compete as a guest driver in the NEC races at Zandvoort. 31 competitors turned up and raced in temperatures that hovered around 10°C and in weather that remained wet.

Because of the wet weather, and the frequent red flag stoppages, there was not much mileage in Friday’s free practice. Qualification on Saturday morning was split into two groups and despite the damp track Andrew finished 9th in his group.

This meant he would start Race One in 18th. By the time the race started it was finally dry and Andrew was at last able to get to grips with the track. He got a good start and in the fast paced race was able to improve to 14th. He was prevented from progressing further when the Safety Car took control of the field for the final three laps of the race.

Race two on Sunday morning was wet, the rain starting to fall five minutes before the field had to form up on the grid. The start was finally given after two laps behind the Safety Car but during the race the Safety Car had to be deployed again for several laps. In the meantime Andrew was able to move up from 18th to 12th. Conditions got even worse during the day and Race Three was cancelled because of the stormy weather!

Enriched by his new experience Andrew now travels to the warmth of his home in Singapore.
