LAST TESTS OF GP3 IN ABU DHABI

The GP3 teams stayed on at the spectacular Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi after the last race of the season to take part in three post-season test days. Most of the drivers running on these days were new, though some of the “old hands” had also stuck around, so it was hardly surprising that they mostly topped the lists, taking into account that they just had spent a race weekend here. Temperatures continued hot, reaching at least 30°C every day.

4^th November 2013: With 27 drivers, there was a full field. Patric Niederhauser (CH), David Fumanelli (I) and Kevin Joerg (CH) all ran with Jenzer Motorsport. In the morning session: Patric was 2^nd, David 18^th and Kevin 24^th. In the afternoon the team tried a series of set up changes and Patric finished 11th as a result, while David was 19^th and Kevin 26^th.

5^th November 2013: In the morning session we ran David Fumanelli (I), and Kevin Joerg (CH), and they were joined in the afternoon by Gustavo Menezes (USA). David was 12^th in the morning as well as in the afternoon, and was improving hugely, but was unable to complete the final 1 and a ½ hours because he was not feeling at all well. Kevin was 16^th in the morning and 13^th in the afternoon, improving considerably so that he was only 0.8 seconds of the best lap time.

6^th November 2013: David Fumanelli (I), Levin Amweg (CH) and local driver Sheikh Hasher al Maktoum (UAE) ran with Jenzer Motorsport. David got up to 13^th in the morning, Levin was 19^th and Sheikh Hasher al Maktoum ended the session in 26^th. In the afternoon David improved to 12^th, and Levin gained 3 places for 16^th while Sheikh Hasher al Maktoum was again 26^th. There were two stoppages when the red flags were needed, and of course they happened at just the wrong moment, just as the new tyres were fitted…

And that brings the 2013 season to a close. The 2014 season starts with the official test days in March and will consist of 9 race weekends this time round. You will find news about the program shortly on our webpage.
