FIRST GP3 TESTS OF 2014 – A GOOD START

The GP3 teams met up on 27^th and 28^th March for the first test days of the new season at the demanding Circuito do Estoril near Lisbon (P). 24 drivers were in attendance, with Pal Varhaug (NOR), Melville McKee (GB) and Adderly Fong (PRC) driving for Jenzer Motorsport. The weather was changeable at first, but was favourable on the second day.

First all the components on the cars had to be checked after the winter break. The first day also started with a moist track, though it dried off quickly. It was briefly dry in the afternoon, before the track was flooded after several heavy downpours. Despite this our drivers did very well. Melville was 9^th in the morning, and Pal 20^th. Adderly missed the morning session as his luggage had not made it on the flight, so he was in search of racing gear. Shortly before lunch he got in the car and was then able to complete exactly one lap! In the afternoon he was the fastest of our troupe in the dry, finishing 12^th, while Pal was 17^th and Melville 19^th.

The sun came out on the second day. First the track was sodden from the night’s rainfall, but it dried out fast. Melville managed a terrific 4^th place in the morning, while Pal was 17^th and Adderly 21^st. In the afternoon Melville was 15^th, Pal 19^th and Adderly 22^nd.

The next official test days are on 10^th/11^th April in Jerez (E) and 16^th/17^th April 2014 in Barcelona (E). The first race of the new season will be run as part of the Formula 1 Grand Prix programme on 10^th/11^th May 2014 in Barcelona (E).
