Qualifying

Friday, 19/08/2016, 14.45 - 15.30, Weather: Overcast, 23°C

This year the series regulations allow the splitting of the large field into two groups, with each group having a 20-minute qualifying session. The fastest lap time for each driver sets the grid for Race One and the second fastest lap time is used to set the starting positions for Race Two. The grid for Race Three is determined by the results of Race One, with the first ten finishers starting in reverse order.

Fabio and Jan-Erik started in the first group, and Job and Kevin in the second group. The first group session was uninterrupted until a just over 2 minutes before the end when it had to be red- flagged and was not restarted. Fabio claimed a good 9th place and Jan-Erik was 13th. On the second grid Fabio was again 9th and Jan-Erik an even better 11th.
In the second group Kevin reached an excellent 8th place with Job directly behind in 9th, and for the second grid Kevin was 12th and Job was in 10th.

Race One (30 minutes)

Saturday, 20/08/2016, 12.00, Weather: Sunny, 20°C

The start went well and the big field was quickly on its way on this demanding circuit. Our drivers first held their positions but then Fabio and Kevin got involved in a battle with two other drivers and ended up on the outside edge of the track. Job saw his opportunity and managed to slip past this group on the inside. Now Job was 16th, Fabio was 18th and Kevin was in 20th. Jan-Erik started well and managed to make up some places, climbing the order to 26th. When Floersch spun off track and her car had to be retrieved from the gravel trap the Safety Car had to be deployed. Jan-Erik had to take avoiding action and lost places as a result of the accident. As a result he took the chequered flag in 28th place. Job had managed to overtake Preining, and was now running in 15th. When the incident with Floersch happened he gained two places at once. After that he was able to put pressure on Hanses, but it was not easy to find a way past. Job started an attack on the last lap and was side by side with Hanses, but Hanses pushed him to the outside and Job was lucky not to fall off and to finish the race in a good 13th place. Fabio had been fighting with Fittje and Nielsen, holding his 16th position for lap after lap until Nielsen managed to overtake him on the very last lap. Fabio crossed the finishing line in 17th. After Kevin lost several places due to contact on the first lap it was very difficult to move up the order again. It didn’t stop him fighting hard and in the end he finished the race in 19th.

Fabio got a good start and soon moved up to 17th, while Job was collected by Hoogenboom and his rear tyre was damaged. Job drove back to the pitlane where he was unfortunately forced to abandon the race. Floersch stalled at the start which caused a traffic jam and Kevin was one of those affected by it, falling back to 27th. Jan-Erik had to avoid another incident, and ran wide which led to a spin that dropped him back to 25th. Kevin and Jan-Erik were both able to improve steadily throughout the race, Kevin reaching the finish line in 22nd and Jan-Erik taking the flag in 24th. Fabio drove a good race, fighting with De Francesco and Piro, as they repeatedly swapped places. In the end Fabio took the flag in a good 16th place.

Race Three (30 minutes)

Sunday, 21/08/2016, 10.20, Weather: Rain, 14°C

There was a storm overnight and torrential rain and it was still raining in the morning. The race started behind the Safety Car, and it was soon back out again after the lead driver, Esmeijer, got stranded in the gravel trap after two laps. Our drivers held their positions and Job was 13th, Fabio 16th, Kevin 18th and Jan-Erik 28th. At the restart some tried to overtake but the track was still so wet that they started spinning and about five cars ended up stranded off track. Following this the race director decided to stop the race and not restart it again. That left the positions as already mentioned and because less than 75% of the race distance had been covered, only half points would be awarded.

The next and final race event of the ADAC Formula 4 German Championship will take place in six week’s time, on the weekend of 2nd October 2016 in Hockenheim (D).

Race Three Results
1st Kami Laliberte (MC) Van Amersvoort 13:31.871
