SCHERER PERFORMS BEST AT THE NÜRBURGRING
The fifth of eight race events featuring the FIA ADAC Formula 4 German Championship was held on the short version of the Nürburgring (D) with 35 drivers expected to compete. The races can be followed live on Sport1 tv and on the official website under Live Streaming.
Qualifying
Saturday, 06/08/2016, 09.40 – 10.25, Weather: Sunny, 14°C
This year the series regulations allow the splitting of the large field into two groups, with each group having a 20-minute qualifying session. The fastest lap time for each driver sets the grid for Race One and the second fastest lap time is used to set the starting positions for Race Two. The grid for Race Three is determined by the results of Race One, with the first ten finishers starting in reverse order.
It was cloudy, but the sun was shining for qualifying on this cool summer morning at the Nürburgring. In free practice on Friday the huge field had been extremely close with 24 cars within a second of the best time. This gave advance warning of just how tricky and tight the session would be. Job, Fabio, Jan-Erik and Kevin were all in the first group and Giacomo ran in the second group.

Race One (30 minutes)
Saturday, 06/08/2016, 14.50, Weather: Sunny, 16°C
Job started well and moved up to 18th place and soon after was 16th. He got into a fight with Piro and the two tangled, leaving Job with a damaged front wing. He had to put for repairs and of course lost a lot of ground as a result. Unfortunately it probably cost him a very good finish and instead he ended up finishing the race back in 32nd. Fabio and Kevin were in the same pack in the midfield where it was very difficult to overtake. Fabio took the chequered flag in 21st with Kevin just behind him in 22nd place. Not far behind them Giacomo and Jan-Erik were in a battle of their own, the pair of them also crossing the line together, with Giacomo finishing 25th from Jan-Erik in 26th.

Race Two (30 minutes)
Sunday, 07/08/2016, 10.30, Weather: Sunny, 20°C
Fabio, who was 21st on the grid, immediately made up several places and was soon up to 13th and locked into a fight with Zendeli and Flörsch. They clashed and there waa contact but Fabio was able to continue, although he dropped back to 16th as a result. And that was where he stayed all the way to the flag. Job and Kevin also managed to improve their positions climbing to 20th and 21st respectively. Later on Job managed to overtake Wolf to come home in 19th while Kevin finished 21st. There was a technical problem with Jan-Erik’s car that meant he had to call into the pits at the end of the format green flag lap to get it fixed. That cost him three laps, but he rejoined anyway and set sme very good lap times with no interference from other cars. Giacomo, meanwhile, launched himself over the kerb on the first lap and damaged his car badly enough to have to retire there and then, which was a shame!

Race Three (30 minutes)
Sunday, 07/08/2016, 14.50, Weather: Sunny, 25°C
Fabio started well and gained a place but after that it was almost impossible to overtake. An incident between Schreiner and Wolf brought out the Safety Car, and at the restart Fabio found himself in 16th, a position he was able to maintain to the end of the race. Kevin also made a good start but in a close battle his car sustained damage which meant the handling became a problem. He fell back and finally had to come into the pits to retire from the race. Job got away well and moved up several places, slotting in just in front of Jan-Erik and Giacomo, the three of them coming home in that order after a long series of laps. Job was 23rd, Jan-Erik 24th and Giacomo 25th, all of them making it through the race unscathed.
The next race meeting in the ADAC Formula 4 series takes place in 2 weeks’ time, on the weekend of 21st August 2016 at Zandvoort (NL).
