Good team result in Silverstone

The FIA F3 Championship took part in its fourth event in the Formula 1 program of the 2022 Formula 1 British Grand Prix on the demanding, fast track in Silverstone (GB). Competition was tough and everybody gave it their best shot to try and shine.

Qualifying

Friday, 01/07/22, 14.55 – 15.25, Weather: Sunny, 19°C

After it had rained during the night, the weekend started on Friday morning with the track practically dry. Ido and William drove here in Silverstone for the first time, Federico knew the circuit from 2020. Our drivers achieved the following results: Ido 21st, William 25th, and Federico 26th place. They had all just used one set of new tires.
Qualifying began a little later. As usual, catching a clear lap played a big role. Although Ido wasn't running quite optimal in the first laps, he was able to improve his position with the second set of tires and qualified 20th. In a demanding session, William managed 21st place. Federico reached the 24th place.

Race One (Sprint-Race, 40 Minutes)

Saturday, 02/07/22, 09.55, Weather: Overcast, 16°C

The first race of the weekend started in fresh conditions. An extra formation lap had to be completed before the lights went out as a driver was very slowly moving back to the pitlane. The race was shortened by one lap. As the lights finally went out, Ido got away well and immediately moved up several places. The Israeli driver was already up to 16th place after the opening lap. Behind him, William managed a good start and successfully held on to his position across the opening lap. After that, William got down to business and completed some nice overtaking maneuvers to conquer 19th place. Federico’s start was a little less smooth, but nevertheless he was able to move up to 23rd place. Nose to tail with the drivers in front and with DRS in action, it was challenging for our drivers to complete some overtaking maneuvers. On lap 10, a contact between Toth and Chovanec brought out the Safety Car. After this disruption our drivers had lost their rhythm a bit as the race got underway again. Only five laps were left to go. Ido lost a place at the restart and eventually crossed the finish line in 17th position. Behind him, William fought with Saucy, but couldn’t find a way through. The Finnish - Ethiopian driver had to settle for 19th place and it was in this position that he took the checkered flag. A bit of bad luck for Federico as the Italian driver went wide at Turn 7 while fighting with Pizzi which dropped him down the order. Federico fought his way back up with good lap times and eventually crossed the finish line in 26th place.

Race Two (Feature Race, 45 Minutes)

Sunday, 03/07/22, 08.35, Weather: Cloudy, 15°C

On Sunday morning the sun was shining over Silverstone, but the temperature was cold when the feature race got underway. Taking care of the tires was very important as the big field made it’s way to the grid for the start. All our drivers got away well when the lights went out and were in the fight for positions already in the opening lap. Unfortunately, William had to avoid an accident in front of him and went wide at Turn 7. While rejoining the track, William had a slight contact with another driver. As a result, his front wing got damaged and he dropped down the order. A bit more to the front, Colapinto also had a contact which ended the race for him. The Safety Car had to be deployed, making it possible for William to pit for a new front wing and rejoin at the end of the field. The race got underway again. After these first incidents Ido was now 16th followed by Federico in 18th place. As the battle for positions restarted, Ido was able to improve up to 12th place. Federico was closing in from behind and was in 15th position. William also restarted well and lap after lap was moving up the order until 19th place. Another Safety Car phase interrupted the race later again. When the track was cleared, the battles resumed until the checkered flag. It was Federico that eventually crossed the finish line in front, taking a great 13th place. Ido saw the checkered flag in 15th position, followed by William, who after a good recovery race finished in 16th position.
