Race One (28 minutes + 1 lap)
Saturday, 16/06/18, 17.10, Weather: Sunny, 26°C
The Formula 4 race was run at the end of the afternoon in high summer temperatures. Federico got away well and overtook Petecof, but then ran wide which let Rodriguez and then Petecof through, meaning he was in a decent 5th place. He held this position all the way to the finish and never gave Caldwell an opportunity to overtake. Giorgio made a good start and soon gained places. He closed in on Caldwell, but couldn’t find a way past, though he still came home in a good 7th place. Gregoire didn’t get the best of starts and came back in 8th place at the end of lap one. He had to let Giorgio past, but then held on to 9th place in a trouble-free run to the finish. Javier, meanwhile, immediately set about making up places and with the aid of some great moves he battled his way from 15th place to 11th, just narrowly missing out on a top ten place. Nazim and Oliver were both caught up in the ruffianly midfield but were both able to make slow but sure progress, at least until Oliver made contact with another driver and ended up going through the gravel trap. He made it back to the pit lane, where he had to retire because he no longer had a front wing. Just before the end of the race, Nazim also bumped into another driver, and he too returned to the pits with no front wing. Despite not being able to continue, he was still classified in 24th place.

Race Two (28 minutes + 1 lap)
Sunday, 17/06/18, 09.00, Weather: Sunny, 30°C
At 9 o'clock in the morning the temperature had already risen to 30°C! The race start was just as hot as the weather, with Giorgio making an excellent start and advancing to 5th place. However, he got off the racing line and ended up spinning, coming to rest in the middle of the track where Cordeel couldn’t avoid him. That ended the race for both of them, and the Safety Car had to be scrambled while the damaged cars were cleared away. Federico put in a strong performance and steadily moved up the order until he reached 6th place. At the restart, Gregoire had been 6th and soon piled the pressure on Rodriguez, until he himself came under pressure and couldn’t hold Caldwell off, coming home in 8th. Oliver had an error free run this time and was soon in the top ten and was delighted at scoring his first points for 9th place, and third in the rookie category. Javier put in a courageous drive to go from 16th to 11th place, again just narrowly missing out on the top ten. Nazim drove consistently and brought his car home right behind Javier in 12th place.
After the race, Caldwell received a time penalty, which moved Federico, Gregoire and Oliver one place up each.

Race Three (28 minutes + 1 lap)
Sunday, 17/06/2018, 17.10, Weather: Sunny, 28°C
It was still very hot late in the afternoon. Giorgio made a clean start before setting off in pursuit of the front runners. He moved up to 5th place and managed to keep Petecof behind him for a long time, until shortly before the end, he left the door slightly open and Petecof was through, leaving Giorgio to claim a great 6th place. Gregoire was sitting comfortably in 7th place for a long time, with Javier progressing steadily from 14th until he was just behind Gregoire. Gregoire ran a little wide, Javier saw what he thought was his chance, and unfortunately, the two of them touched, which cost them both top ten places and points. Federico was pushed from behind on the first lap and spun but was able to rejoin the race in 25th place, triggering a courageous run to make up positions. He overtook lap after lap, progressing steadily and finishing in 13th place. Nazim was also not deterred and improved his position steadily. Starting from 21st place, he made it into the top ten and took the flag in a good 9th place. Oliver was very unhappy at being pushed off on the straight when another driver hit him from behind and sent him straight into the barriers. Fortunately, the damage was only to the car, but the driver was unscathed.
In scrutineering after the race, Petecof's car was found to be underweight and the driver was disqualified from the race, which moved all of our drivers up one place.
The next race of the Italian F4 Championship takes place on the weekend of 29th July 2018 at Imola (I).
