Kluss shines in Vallelunga

The third of seven meetings in the Italian FIA Formula 4 Championship took place on the technical track of Vallelunga (I) at the gates of Rome. With 38 competitors present for the meeting, their expectations were as high as could be ahead of the start.

Qualifying

Saturday, 02/07/22, 10.30 – 11.10, Weather: Sunny, 24°C

The rules allow for two qualifying sessions of 15 minutes, with a 10-minute break in between. The Qualifying 1 times determine the grid for Race 1 and the times from Qualifying 2 determine the grid for Race 2. The starting order for Race 3 is based on the 2nd best lap time of each driver in either of the two qualifying sessions.

Race One (30 minutes + 1 lap)

Saturday, 02/07/22, 15.10, Weather: Sunny, 37°C

On Saturday afternoon the first race of the weekend started in blistering heat. Valentin had a good start and made up one place straight away. He steadily improved his position as the race progressed. After a safety car phase he was taken by surprised and lost a few places. But finally he brought his race car safely to the finish line in 16th place. Ethan got off to a good start and managed to make up several places. After the restart, he managed to hold on to his place and to advance further until the end. He crossed the finish line in 23rd place after a tough race.

Race Two (30 minutes + 1 lap)

Sunday, 03/07/22, 09.00, Weather: Sunny, 30°C

Sunday started again sunny and hot. Although Valentin lost a place after the start, he then steadily worked his way up the field. Valentin managed very good lap times and, after a hard race, achieved a very good 14th place. Ethan couldn't get away at the start and almost had to let the entire field pass him until he got going. Then he set off on a courageous race to catch up the positions. He managed to get back up to 22nd place in a field of 37 drivers. His lap times were also very good and a lot more could have been possible with a better start.

Race Three (28 minutes + 1 lap)

Sunday, 03/07/22, 14.00, Weather: Sunny, 37°C

The third race of the weekend took place in the blistering afternoon heat. Valentin got off to a good start and changed positions with Karlsson a few times. Then he asserted himself and managed to move up a few more places. Valentin then held 15th place for a large part of the race and also brought it safely to the finish line. Ethan had a good start this time, but then had to avoid an accident, went wide and lost several places. He then managed to improve lap after lap and finally crossed the finish line in 20th place.

The fifth race meeting of the Italian Formula championship is scheduled for the weekend of 11th September at the Red Bull Ring (A).
