Al Sulaiti shines with podium in Mugello

The fourth of the seven races of the Italian FIA F4 Championship took place at the fast and demanding GP circuit of Mugello. Forty nine cars were entered. Hot summer weather accompanied the event.

Qualifying

Friday, 24/07/26, 17.15 – 17.35 Q S1, Weather: Sunny, 26°C
Friday, 24/07/26, 17.45 – 18.05 Q S2

With 49 drivers, the number of participants exceeded the track's capacity for racing. According to the regulations, there were two qualifying series, which were drawn by lot. Each series had 20 minutes. The results of the two series were then used to form three groups: Groups A, B, and C. These groups then each competed in two qualifying races: Group B versus C, Group A versus B, and Group A versus C. The top 36 drivers competed in the final race in the end.

Elia put in a brilliant performance and, with his pole position time in the first qualifying session, set the fastest time of all 49 competitors. Cosma-Cristofor matched that time in the second qualifying session, but as this session took place later, it did not count as the fastest time overall.

Qualifying Race One (25 minutes + 1 lap) – Group B versus Group C

Saturday, 25/07/26, 11.10, Weather: Sunny, 30°C

The first race started under a hot sun. Bader immediately improved from 7th on the grid to 5th. He drove excellently and easily stayed with the leading group. His restart after the first safety car period was superb, and he was now chasing fourth place. An accident shortly before the end of the race brought the safety car back into play, and at the restart, there was only one lap left to complete. This completely erased the gaps that had been built up. Bader crossed the finish line in an excellent 5th place. However, he was given a 10-second penalty for a jump start, which dropped him back to 26th overall. What a shame! Teo also started well and improved from 11th into the top ten, moving up to 10th. He drove strongly and held this position until the end of the race. After Bader's penalty, Teo moved up to 9th. Levi had lost a few places at the start and wanted to make them up immediately. But he braked too late, went off the track, and slid through the gravel trap. This dropped him back to 30th place. In the remaining laps, he worked his way up to 23rd. He ultimately finished 22nd. Nicolas had to start far back due to a penalty from the last race in Monza. He managed to steadily gain positions throughout the race and finished in 18th place. He ultimately finished 17th.

Qualifying Race Two (25 minutes + 1 lap) – Group A versus Group B

Saturday, 25/07/26, 17.10, Weather: Sunny, 36°C

The second race started at the end of a hot afternoon. Elia was doing excellently and was leading the race comfortably. Only Consani managed to catch and chase him. Consani's attack on Elia was unfortunate, and the two collided. Elia lost his chance of victory due to a flat tire. He managed to get back to the pits, but there was no point in restarting the race from the back. Consani received a 25-second penalty for his actions, which dropped him back to 22nd place. Teo was doing well, but soon collided with a competitor in one of the corners. He then managed to get back to the pits with a flat tire, where he ended his race.

Qualifying Race Three (25 minutes + 1 lap) – Group A versus Group C

Sunday, 26/07/26, 09.30, Weather: Sunny, 20°C

A severe thunderstorm swept across the track on Sunday morning. It soon cleared up, and the sun shone for the start of the race. Some drivers opted for rain tires, others slicks. Elia started from pole position once again. He got off to a good start, but soon came under pressure from his pursuers. He ran a little too wide into the wet and spun into the gravel trap, where he unfortunately got stuck. This ended his race, and thus his weekend, which had begun with a perfect qualifying session, with two DNFs. The safety car took over. At the restart, the drivers on rain tires stormed to the front. Levi took the lead, Bader followed, and soon our two drivers were leading the field. The track dried quickly, and the drivers on slick tires gained the advantage. Consani finally managed to overtake Bader. Bader nevertheless climbed onto the podium for the first time in this championship, very proudly and deservedly finishing second. Levi ran wide and dropped back to ninth place. He secured a solid top-ten finish. Nicolas had handled the changing conditions well and took home the final point with his 15th place finish.

Final Race (25 minutes + 1 lap)

Sunday, 26/07/26, 15.50, Weather: Sunny, 29°C

Our drivers Bader, Levi, Teo, and Nicolas had made it to the final race. This took place in dry conditions once again. Bader got off to a great start and soon found himself in 10th place. He was unstoppable and improved his position by another place after the restart following a safety car period. In the final laps, Bader managed to work his way up to 7th place, a position he held safely to the finish. Levi started in 18th place and quickly gained another position, advancing to 15th by the end and securing a point. Teo was soon locked in a battle with Ruta, driving wheel-to-wheel corner after corner, with neither able to gain the upper hand. Unfortunately, the two collided and came to a stop beside the track, ending their race. Nicolas started from 30th place and steadily improved his position, finishing in 20th place.
After the race time penalties were given, and following this, Levi moved up to 14th position.
