Qualifying

Friday, 02/10/2015, 17.45 – 18.30, Weather: Sunny, 17°C

The series regulations stipulate that the enormous field must be split into two groups, each of which has a 20 minute qualifying session. The fastest lap time for each driver is used to set the grid for Race One and the second fastest lap time is used to set the starting positions for Race Two. The grid for Race Three is determined from the results of Race One, with the first ten finishers starting in reverse order so the winner of Race One starts from 10th, the 2nd placed driver starts 9th, and so on.
The sky was completely cloudless for free practice, and it stayed that way until the evening and throughout the qualifying sessions. Marek was 11th and 11th in the first group, and Moritz was 13th and 14th in the same group.
David started in the second group and was 13th and 13th.

The first race took place in bright sunshine. Shortly after the start there was an accident towards the back of the field, and the Safety Car had to be deployed. Marek had started well and was already up in 14th. At the restart he improved his position further, and was able to move up further in the order. He finished in an excellent 9th place and stood himself in good stead with regarding to his grid position in the third race. Moritz also managed to improve his position steadily and finished in a good 15th place. David had to avoid an incident at the start and lost several positions as a result. After that he managed to move up again until he reached 22nd place.

Race Two (30 minutes)

Saturday, 03/10/2015, 17.20, Weather: Cloudy, 20°C

None of our drivers got much of a chance to improve their positions in the second race. With a total of three Safety Car phases and the race being red flagged and stopped in the end there were exactly two racing laps, in which they could drive “normally”. The start was chaotic, and Marek, who had been pushed onto the grass, and then got hit by another driver, had to limp back to the pit lane, where he parked his damaged car, his race already at an end. David had moved up steadily and finished the race in 21st place. Moritz finished 17th. All we could do was hope for a real race to finish the season properly.

Race Two Results
1st David Beckmann (D) Mücke 27:20.426
2nd Lando Norris (GB) Mücke Gap 0.250
3rd Joseph Mawson (AUS) Van Amersfoort Gap 0.735
17th Moritz Müller-Crepon (CH) Jenzer Motorsport
21st David Kolkmann (D) Jenzer Motorsport
DNF: Marek Böckmann (D) Jenzer Motorsport
Fastest lap: Lando Norris (GB) 1:42.032

Race Three (30 minutes)

Sunday, 04/10/2015, 16.05, Weather: Overcast, 17°C

It had been raining in the morning. During the afternoon the track started to dry, but it was still wet in parts, particularly on the kerbs. Marek got a good start and set off in pursuit of Mawson. There was a lot of movement throughout the field, and most underestimated the slippery places. Mawson made a mistake and that let Marek into the lead. But then a big accident happened and the race was red flagged. The drivers had to return to the grid and form up in the original order for the restart. This time the race started under the Safety Car, which stayed out for two laps. Marek got pushed off and lost 2nd place. The same happened to Marek a few corners later and he fell back to 15th. Moritz was up in 13th place, and David was behind Marek in 16th place. More accidents occurred, and the Safety Car was deployed twice more. During the few racing laps Marek moved up to 9th place again, Moritz was 10th and David 12th.

That brought the inaugural FIA ADAC Formel 4 Deutsche Meisterschaft to an end and the champion can be crowned. It is Marvin Dienst (D), who beat Joel Eriksson (SWE) and Joseph Mawson (AUS) to the title.

We are already looking forward to the next season!

Race Three Results
1st Joseph Mawson (AUS) Van Amersfoort 39:23.342

10th Moritz Müller-Crepon (CH) Jenzer Motorsport
