Race One (30 minutes + 1 lap)

Saturday, 04/05/19, 18.00, Weather: Rain, 16°C

Black clouds hung over the track just as the massive F4 field lined up for the first race start of the season. Everyone opted to start on slicks, despite the officials designating it a "wet race". After the start, there were several incidents and the Safety Car took control of the field. Giorgio was already up in 5th place when he slid off the track after a minor crash. He was only able to get going again once the rest of the field had gone past. Jonny was 6th, Axel was 11th and Emidio was 19th. The Safety Car stayed out for several laps, during which time it began to rain on parts of the circuit. Giorgio reported this on the radio, and the team decided to call him into the pits to mount wet weather tyres. The pit stop was very rapid and Giorgio caught up the field while they were still behind the Safety Car. Emidio also pitted for wet weather tyres, while Jonny and Axel stayed out because they were in very good positions. The Safety Car pulled in, and the drivers who were now on wet weather tyres started a massive catch-up operation. The rain got worse and after just one full lap the Safety Car was back out again. Giorgio had improved to go 14th, but there was not possibility to do more in that time. The rain got even heavier, and finally the race officials brought the race to an end with the red flag. Jonny and Axel had managed to maintain their positions in the very slippery conditions on slick tires, with Jonny 7th in the overall standings, finishing on the podium as the 3rd placed rookie. Axel was 12th, Giorgio 14th and Emidio 20th. After the race, several drivers were penalized for overtaking under Safety Car conditions. That moved Axel up to 9th, to claim his first points. Giorgio was classified 11th, and Emidio was 15th.

Race Two (30 minutes + 1 lap)

Sunday, 05/05/19, 10.10, Weather: Rain, 13°C

It rained heavily right before the race and, although it stopped later, the track was really wet. Everyone chose wet tyres and the race started behind the Safety Car. Conditions were slippery and difficult, and after the Safety Car pulled in, it only took a lap before there were several accidents and the Safety Car came straight back out. Giorgio was 9th, Axel 17th, Emidio 23rd and Jonny 25th. At the restart, Giorgio and Aron tangled, and both dropped right down the order. Axel, however, made up several places and was soon 10th. He then attempted another manoeuvre, which failed, and he dropped back to 18th. After clashing with another driver, Emidio lost ground and ended up in 29th place, working his way back up to 26th by the end. Jonny was already 14th when he tangled with someone too and dropped to 17th place, finishing the race with broken suspension. Giorgio managed to move up from 22nd to 15th place. Unfortunately, he didn’t finish in the top ten, which should have been easy this time, though several drivers were handed time penalties after the race, which changed the results considerably.

Race Three (28 minutes + 1 lap)

Sunday, 05/05/19, 17.15, Weather: Cloudy, 9°C

In the afternoon it rained heavily but intermittently, and the F4 race started almost an hour late. The sky was blue at that moment, but more clouds were already in sight, and the track was so wet that everyone chose wet weather tyres, and the officials started the race behind the Safety Car. The first few laps were accident free, and Giorgio was running well in 10th place. Jonny was 15th, Axel was 20th and Emidio was 21st. Jonny and another driver spun and were both stranded on the kerbs, which was a great shame. The Safety Car was deployed so that they could both be recovered, a process that took several laps and left the drivers in impatient mood at the restart. Inevitably another accident occurred and there were several more laps behind the Safety Car. At the restart there was only one lap left, so no one could do much. Giorgio reached the finish in a good 8th, Axel was 16th and Emidio 19th.

The second race meeting for Formula 4 Italy will take place on the weekend of 19th May 2019 in Misano (I).
